The right tutor makes all the difference

Why choose me as a tutor?

I can help any student learn anything. In 14 years of classroom experience I have developed my ability to get to know my students genuinely and authentically to help them connect to their learning. My major expertise is in history, but I am adept at helping students make real connections in any content area class and their real life.

In English, I help students find applicable and relatable meaning in their assignments. In science, I help students recognize where they experience the concepts they're learning. Even in math, I can find relevant scenarios for students to apply their math skills. In history, I help students recognize the thread between the past, the modern day, and their own lives.

Every year students would tell me that my class felt like the first time they really learned history.

๐ŸŒ

Why choose me for English?

I can build an individualized program and set goals for a unique English learning experience for everyone. I have a unique history of experience that makes me an ideal teacher.

As a language learner myself, I personally know the struggles, challenges, and frustrations of trying to learn a new language. I learned Italian in college in a very traditional and structured way. When I wanted to learn Spanish, I taught myself utilizing different resources and methods.

Through my many years in the classroom I am confident in my ability to diagnose learning challenges and help students meet the goals they want to achieve.

"You positively impacted my worldview. You came up with different ways to illustrate a historical event and helped me see that history overlaps often. Thank you for making history understandable and fun."

The person behind the lessons

๐Ÿค

Teaching philosophy

I have a connection-first approach. I get to know you before anything else โ€” because grades and test scores can be informative, but I know that every learner is different and needs an individual, personal approach. I want to know what you care about, what makes you curious, and what challenges you. From there, we build together. Whether you are working on an English essay, studying history, making sense of science, or learning a new language, I am here to help you find your own way to learn.

Credentials

I hold a Master's in Teaching from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and I am a certified TEFL educator. I spent 12 years teaching History and Language Arts in the Seattle area, where I developed a deep passion for helping young people connect what they learn in school to who they are in the real world. Between 2024 and 2026 I had the opportunity to teach in Quito, Ecuador. Living there and learning Spanish deepened my appreciation for language learning. Working with international students allowed me to learn alongside people of diverse perspectives and life experiences.

About me

I grew up in Washington State and have been fortunate to travel throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. I have family in Florence, Italy, and have studied both Italian and Spanish. These experiences have shown me how place and upbringing shape identity and worldview. I am a history enthusiast, and when I am not teaching, I am learning. I love traveling to new places to discover their history and the people who live there. When I am home, I enjoy reading books and listening to podcasts about history and current events. Wherever I am, I like to explore and attend community events to better understand local people and cultures.
